You will also begin meeting with your professional support team. Your team of support experts may include a dietitian, psychologist, and exercise physiologist. They will develop a comprehensive program for you, which can include one-on-one expert guidance and coaching on fitness and nutrition.

Your doctor will give you steps that you need to follow in order to prepare for your procedure and for your weight loss journey.

The Orbera Procedure

This is a non-surgical procedure done under mild sedation. The deflated Orbera balloon is guided into your stomach through your mouth. Once in place, it is filled with a saline solution until it becomes the size of a grapefruit. Typically, this procedure takes only 20 to 30 minutes to complete and you can go home the same day.

After six months, the balloon is deflated and removed in the same manner it was placed. Again, this is a non-surgical procedure performed under mild sedation.

After Your Procedure

Orbera-The-Lap-Band-Center-4For the first few days after your procedure, you may feel uncomfortable while your stomach is adjusting to the presence of the balloon. It is not uncommon to experience nausea, vomiting, or abdominal discomfort. However, you will be provided the medical treatment necessary to relieve these symptoms.

For the first three days, you will be restricted to a liquid diet. Upon discharge, you will be given instructions on how to remain adequately hydrated. It is important you follow these specific instructions to prevent becoming dehydrated. You will be able to incorporate solid foods into your diet after liquids. It is generally recommended to begin with semi-solid foods and gradually incorporate fully solid foods into your diet. The transition to fully solid foods varies for each person and is dependent upon how well your body tolerates liquids. It is important to let your body be your guide and not rush this transition.

Upon discharge, you will likely be advised to avoid physical activity for 24 to 48 hours. Approximately two weeks after your procedure, you will feel well enough to begin exercising under the guidance of your health care provider and support team.

The Orbera 6 Month Program

Orbera-The-Lap-Band-Center-5During the six-month placement of your Orbera balloon, you will have regular meetings with your support team.
